The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) is preparing a pilot project on “Fishing, purchasing, processing and exporting globe fish compliant with food safety standards” to submit to the Government for approval.

The project set the target to export 800-1,000MT of globe fish products in 2010. It is expected that Viet Nam will earn US$4-10 million and create 600-1,000 jobs from globe fish harvesting and processing in 2012.

The project will be implemented in three years, from 2010 to 2012, in five provinces of Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Kien Giang.

MARD Deputy Minister, Mr. Luong Le Phuong said that after the project being approved, MARD will hold workshops and training courses for fishers and staff responsible for collecting globe fish on assessment and evaluation techniques, on-boat preservation measures, and issue certificates for qualified individuals and groups.
