The ASF Weekly News Issue No.5, dated November 21-27, 2009, reported that Viet Nam is one of seven leading shrimp exporters to Europe in term of volume in 2008.


Ecuador topped the list with export value of €312,227,000; followed by Argentina (€252,575,890), India (€226,548,930), Bangladesh (€151,530,360), China (€110,546,600), Thailand (€110,477,840) and Viet Nam (€105,513,410).

According to VASEP, EU is Viet Nam’s largest shrimp importer. In the first ten months of 2009, Vietnamese seafood exporters shipped to this block 33,689MT of shrimp, worth US$228,407,108, accounted for 16.86 percent of the country’s total shrimp export value in this period.

In addition to frozen black tiger, exporters also sold a variety of shrimp products, such as breaded shrimp and other processed, frozen cat tiger shrimp, prawn, pink shrimp, lobster to EU.

According to the statistics of Vietnam Customs, from January 1 to October 31, EU imported from Viet Nam 291,909MT of seafood, worth US$907,881,035, accounted for 26.03 percent of the country’s total seafood export value in this period. (VietFishNews)
